It’s becoming more and more common these days for elected officials to get “caught” doing something that they shouldn’t do. But let’s face reality – many of us think we can get away from doing things that we shouldn’t do and this doesn’t just apply to elected officials.
The incident involving Congressman Vance McAllister over a month ago and his “kissing” scene with an administrative assistant brings us back to square one of what you don’t do to mess up a committed relationship.
I understand that things happen. That we can’t control our urges – but doesn’t some control need to come in play?
This is one of the arts of creating non-violence – to be able to control yourself. There is really nothing much to this and control means controlling any sexual urge you may have toward another person if you are in a committed relationship.
From reading the news about the administrative assistance’s husband I couldn’t help but observe a few things he said that we all need to be cognizant of that could hit us in the face one day if we act in as foolish a manner as his wife who he thought was 100% committed to him. He specifically uses language such as:
- “I am freaking devastated by the whole deal, man.”
- “This guy has turned my life upside down.”
- “He has wrecked my life”
Guys and gals – look at the language used that I underlined. You can easily become the victim just like the husband.
Please watch what you are doing – because you know why? It’s because we are living in a world where you are being watched everywhere. Did the congressman think he was going to get away from this – an incident that occurred in December and for which the news broke in April? Nope! Never do – we all get caught somehow.
Here is my idea for you today – if you are in a committed relationship or want to be in a committed relationship, think about what action you may take with another person that will have an impact on your partner. You need to think about whether you want to be in a committed relationship or not. For crying out load – the congressman was a father to 5 children and the administrative assistant has a 6 year old son! They had relationships where they were role models and influencers to others.
Your action if you so foolishly decide not to control yourself will impact everyone in your network – your kids, your spouse, your parents, your friends, your LinkedIn network, your Facebook friends, your community – everyone!
Had this been a Hershey kiss incident where you opened up a wrapper and popped a small chocolate pyramid in your month that was filmed on camera it would be no big deal – majority of the people would find this kind of news uninteresting which is your favor. But if you French kiss someone who you shouldn’t be kissing and it gets out in public (which is possible now with surveillance cameras, personal investigators, and cell phone cameras to name a few) – get ready to feel the biggest guilt trip of your life and a hole that will be extremely difficult to dig out of.
Don’t put yourself in a position where you need to beg for forgiveness from others for actions you moronically took. Don’t expect someone to still be going out with you or be married to you if you act this way – this is punishment indeed for the actions you take.
So, which way are you going to go outside a committed relationship – the Hershey kiss or the French kiss? Be wise with all your physical urges as anything can come back to bite you.
